My good friend Alisa gave me this wonderful idea: 
and now I can't have bacon any other way. You put the bacon on a baking stone (and from personal experience it must have sides! Talk about a stinky smoky mess...) and bake it at 400 for 20 minutes for PERFECT bacon! The stone doesn't absorb odors so you can bake cookies on it the next day and not have them smell like salty pork. We love it.
And saw this:
a quail! The poor thing got chased around by the kids for a while, but ended up safe. It was a fun treat to see some wildlife up close. It definitely happens to us more here in Twin than in Mesa!
